AED Contest
October is Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month and we’re encouraging everyone to locate and register AEDs. By doing so, you’re helping to build the National Emergency AED + Resource (NEAR) Registry, a catalog of life-saving devices that could mean the difference between life and death for someone suffering a cardiac arrest.
There are prizes for individuals and communities that register AEDs, so spread the word! We've put together images, social posts, and other resources to make that easy.

HELP BUILD YOUR COMMUNITY REGISTRY
Help us locate and register AEDs so their location is known by community responders and 911 telecommunicators in the event of a cardiac arrest.
By registering AEDs with the free NEAR Registry app, or online through AED.new, during Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month (October), you'll be entered to win one of ten $500 Amazon gift cards. The more AEDs you register, the more chances you'll have to win. Collectively, the community that registers the most AEDs will be awarded five AEDs equipped with TAG, supplied by Safe Life, and an outdoor SaveStation® AED cabinet.
- AEDs must be registered between October 1, 2026 and October 31, 2026 to qualify (contest period).
- AEDs must be registered using the free NEAR Registry app available on the App Store and Google Play, or online at AED.new.
- Individual winners will be notified via the email address associated with their NEAR Registry account no later than November 16, 2026. Gift cards will be sent electronically.
- The community that collectively registers the most AEDs (weighted by community size) will be awarded five AEDs equipped with TAG, the world's first True AED GPS, along with Safe Life's AED365 Program Management, and one 24/7 public access, outdoor, fully monitored SaveStation AED cabinet. Additionally, PulsePoint will assist with marketing efforts around the placement and registration of the AEDs.

Increase Survival
WHY CATALOGING AED LOCATIONS IS CRUCIAL
More than 350,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCA) occur annually in the U.S., making it a leading cause of death. Survival rates nationally for sudden cardiac arrest are less than 10 percent.
However, cardiac arrest victims who receive a shock from a publicly available AED (automated external defibrillator) administered by a lay responder prior to EMS arrival have 2-3 times better odds of survival and more favorable outcomes. In fact, for every minute defibrillation is delayed, a cardiac arrest patient's chance of survival drops by about 10 percent.
Despite the life-saving potential of AEDs, they are of no value if they cannot be located and placed into service during a cardiac emergency.
